QUESTIONS:

1)    Specific code related issues

a.    An example for PV systems might be - AC Disconnect Switch, Safety Plaques for site specific system

2)    Permit costs

3)    City sponsored rebates/incentives

4)    Anything else you might think of?

ANSWERS:

1. State Fire Marshal guidelines are used by Fire: 3' clearance around array, label conduits, etc. International Code Council Tri Chapter Uniform Code Committee guidelines http://www.iccmontereybay.org/TUCC_Policy_11_Photovoltaic.pdf

2. Building permit fee in master fee schedule: $260 for up to 3kv system, $60 for each additional kv or fraction there of. $155 Fire plan check fee.

3. None at this time directly related to solar panel installation. However, the City does offer a 10% permit discount for LEED accredited projects.  

4. Additional labeled AC/DC roof disconnect at array.

This is great thanks. How would one get LEED accreditation for a PV system? Is that even possible?

Photovoltaic systems can render points towards a LEED rating (http://www.agt.com/AGT-Services/Services/LEED.html, http://www.constructionmagnet.com/article/LEED_points_through_photovoltaics/). The PV system can be part of a LEED accredited project, which would qualify for the 10% discount.
